Where Are You Wednesday - Katie Williams (Townsend), '07
Tell us what you are doing currently – professionally & personally.
Professionally, I am currently working as a realtor for Root Realty here in Jacksonville. I work with buyers and sellers all throughout Northeast Florida, and love what I do! Before jumping into the world of real estate, I went to FSU and graduated with a degree in nursing. I worked as a pediatric nurse at Wolfson Children’s Hospital for 6 years, and as a nurse analyst for one year. Personally, my husband Bradley and I have been married for 7 years and have two boys, Bradley (3) and Hunter (1). You will most likely catch us playing outside in the backyard or at the pool. Bradley and I love to hike and just recently went to Glacier National Park to hike and fly fish!
How did your time at Providence School prepare you for what you are doing today?
Every season of my life has brought different relationships, experiences, joys and challenges, which have all molded me into who I am today, and that includes my time at Providence. I was academically prepared to pursue my career goals at Florida State, my faith created a solid foundation for my life, and I still have lasting friendships with classmates to this day. My friends and family have taught me the importance of community, my faith has given me hope in something greater than myself, and my experiences have brought both humility and confidence.
What is your greatest professional accomplishment thus far?
I was recently named a rising star in the Jacksonville real estate industry and Root Realty was named one of the top 16 real estate teams nationwide to watch out for in 2021. The most fulfilling part of the job is feedback received from past customers, as well as referrals. Anytime I get to work with a referral, that is the highest compliment!
What advice would you give current students or recent graduates interested in pursuing a career in your field?
Sometimes I feel weird not using my nursing degree in my current career. I was very nervous to jump into real estate because I worked hard to become a nurse, took pride in that, and knew that was the career I chose. I think it's important to know that you don't have to have your life or career figured out, maybe ever! Each season brings new opportunities, so don't put yourself in a box. For anyone who is interested in real estate, I would suggest reaching out to someone you know in the industry to pick their brain. There is so much work that happens behind the scenes, and it's important to know the pros and cons of the job. Find someone you respect to work with and train under, and give yourself time to be established in the industry!
Share your best Providence memory.
I loved my time at Providence, but my mind keeps going back to all of my memories spent with the dance team. We were constantly laughing (thank you Max Sjostrom) and having a blast doing what we loved! I always looked forward to spending time with this group and cherish those memories to this day.
