Where Are You Wednesday - Joy Koutnik (McLaughlin), Class of 2001

As a member of our 20 year class, we wanted to catch up Joy Koutnik (McLaughlin), Class of 2001, who attended our July Reunion. Her kids are 2nd generation Stallions & we love seeing her kids enjoy the same Providence she did!

  • Tell us what you are doing currently – professionally & personally.
  • I am currently a registered team manager at Merrill Edge. I manage a team of advisors and specialize in career progression. I have 3 children Ethan (15), Harlow (9), and Ace (4). Harlow and Ace attend Providence currently and Ethan is hoping to join them next year. My husband and I love to travel and are avid sports fans! I love to run in my spare time and just completed my first marathon in Chicago.
  • How did your time at Providence School prepare you for what you are doing today? During my time at Providence, I learned that nothing is impossible if you work hard and trust in His plan for your life.
  • What is your greatest professional accomplishment thus far? I made a huge career change in 2019 from Dance and Healthcare to the financial industry. Without any knowledge of what that entailed, I completed 5 FINRA exams in a period of 16 months. Because of this determination, I was moved from entry level to management in just over a year with my firm.
  • What advice would you give current students or recent graduates interested in pursuing a career in your field? Never lose the desire to learn! Keep a positive attitude and say yes to opportunities. Take ownership!
  • Share your best Providence memory. There are so many to choose from! I was on the dance team each year and my junior year i was captain of varsity cheer. I loved the time I got to spend with my peers during rehearsals and practices. The pep rallies were the most fun. The energy from the students could be felt when we were performing on the court! I love coming back with our kids to games to feel that energy is still going strong!
